Somerset Cricket Museum can be found at the County Ground, and housed in a 500 year old Grade II listed building that is the only remaining building of the Augustinian Tauton Priory, which was seized by King Henry VIII in 1539! The Museum is within walking distance of the main rail and bus stations, and can be found behind the Ondaatje Pavillion.Fancy some fun on dry land? At Channel Adventure Taunton your kids can take tree climbing to a whole new level. Taunton, the county town of Somerset is well placed nestling in the Vale of Taunton Deane, between the Quantock Hills and the Blackdown Hills. The town has many architectural features dominated by the soaring church spires that dominate the skyline. The newly restored Vivary Park is a relaxing haven from the hustle of our busy town. The ornate Victorian fountain and park gates are a feature of the garden. Vivary Park is the ideal setting for the annual Taunton Flower Show 'Chelsea of the West'; it draws visitors from all over the country. The Proms in the Park and fireworks concert is held each summer. There is also the ever-popular golf course on the edge of Vivary Park.
The Blackdown Hills is one of the best viewpoints where you will find the notable landmark Wellington Monument that is visible for many miles. The Brendon Hills is west of Taunton near the town of Wiveliscombe that is the gateway to the Exmoor National Park. A wonderful place to explore with narrow lanes and footpaths.
The Quantock Hills rises to the north of Taunton stretching to the coast. There is few roads providing access to the hills however there is many bridleways perfect for walking riding or biking. It is noted for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty cloaked in heather and gorse. Expect to come across varied wildlife including red deer.
Hestercombe Gardens is a paradise close to Cheddon Fitzpaine. Nestled in the tranquil forty acre valley of the landscape garden revealing lakes, temples outstanding views water features and woodland walks. Enjoy the spendour o f the famous Gertrude Jekyll and Sir Edwin Lutyens formal garden.
Sheppys Cider is a favourite if you enjoy the traditional Somerset Farm Cider, located near Wellington.
West Somerset Railway is Britains longest steam railway running from Bishops Lydeard to the coast at Minehead.
Somerset County Cricket Ground is located adjacent to the River Tone in Taunton.
Taunton Racecourse season starts in October and ends in April superbly located overlooking the Blackdown Hills.
